Some, Er, Love’em: Whiskies in Warm Weather

For many people, there is a season or occasion for certain drinks. Mint juleps for the Kentucky Derby. Champagne at weddings. Wine by the glass at a fancy dinner…or by the box, alone in your apartment after a bad breakup. For a lot of folks, whisky is often a drink they associate with the cooler months of the year. We get it. One of the great things about exploring any kind of food or beverage is the associations you make when you think about them. Dare to explore whisky in the warmer months of the year and invoke new memories.

Scotchology: Year Four

Scotchology: Year Four

Against all expectation, the end of this past June marks the fourth anniversary of the first time the original group of us got together, before we even called ourselves Scotchology. Before all kinds of hi-jinks, travels, and tastings. And despite the best of intentions to make this an annual sort of thing, it has been two years since the last update. It seems like a long time since June of 2013, when four of us began to regularly meet for the expressed purpose of exploring single malt scotch together. We’d never have dreamed we’d find ourselves where we are now. Wait, where are we?

When ex-ballerina Allison Patel couldn’t find the whiskies she’d enjoyed during her global travels here in the US, she did the next logical thing and began creating a distribution company to remedy that dearth. During this process, she found a Cognac producer in France who had distilled some single malt on the side. A taste compelled Allison to collaborate with the producer over the next few years and in 2012, the first Brenne was officially launched. The Estate Cask is the flagship model (though a 10 year was released in October, 2015) with an average age of seven years, matured in French Limousine oak barrels before being finished in Cognac casks. With the drive of its young and motivated owner, along with an award-winning whisky, Brenne appears to have a bright future.
