Glenfiddich IPA Cask

Glenfiddich IPA Cask

In 2016, Glenfiddich released the Glenfiddich IPA Cask offering to inaugurate their Experimental Series. This yearly series is geared toward, as the name indicates, experimenting and pushing the envelope of what might be considered normal within the industry while still playing within regulatory bounds. This expression takes the current trend of cask finishing and adds a twist by doing so in barrels that once held an IPA-style beer at Speyside Craft Brewing specially created by a collaboration between Master Blender Brian Kinsman and Craft Beer Expert Seb Jones.

The Singleton: Game of Thrones Edition

The Singleton: Game of Thrones Edition

Leading up to the final season of the mega-hit HBO series Game of Thrones, spirits conglomerate Diageo released a set of 8 single mats paired with a House of Westeros and the Night Watch. A few of the scotches have age statements but most do not. The Singleton is a scotch not regularly seen in the US, which is why we snatched this up while in an airport duty free shop. Made from the Glendullan distillery, which was founded in 1897, it draws its water from the famed Fiddich river. The pairing with House Tully seems proper, as the emblematic fish is shared both both the House in the books and the Singleton in real life.

Balvenie 14 Year Peat Week

Balvenie 14 Year Peat Week

The Balvenie are large and successful enough to not only keep their full stock of standard offerings in full swing, they’re also keen on playing with all the elements available in whisky production to create more limited offerings. The Balvenie 14 Year “Peat Week” is so named because the distillery has apparently been distilling peated whisky since 2002 for one week a year. Hitching their cart to the transparency train, Balvenie does a brilliant job of listing exactly what week in any given year this scotch was distilled during, along with some particulars about how peat characteristics are imparted to whisky in general. While not part of their standard lineup, it appears that Balvenie is poised to make this scotch a regular or semi-regular offering, even if only ever in limited quantities.
