Glenkinchie 12 Year

Glenkinchie 12 Year

Located only a short distance from Edinburgh in the peaceful farmlands of East Lothian, Glenkinchie is one of the few Lowland distilleries left operating in Scotland. Known as “The Edinburgh Malt,” the distillery first opened in 1837, closed for a time, then reopened under new ownership at the end of the 19th century and has remained in production ever since. Not a large producer of single malts, there are currently only two offerings: this 12 year and a Distiller’s Edition, which ages an additional two years in Amontillado sherry casks. Thankfully, under ownership of the Diageo conglomerate, they remain in relative constant supply.

The Macallan 12 Year

The Macallan 12 Year

The Macallan is one of the undisputed titans of the Scotch industry. It is also one of the top sellers of Scotch in the world, close behind Glenfiddich and The Glenlivet. Though classified by recent whisky regulations as a Highland Malt, many experts (and the distillery themselves) consider it a Speyside. Being a very large and well-selling brand for almost 200 years, it is perhaps no surprise that Macallan boasts deep offerings across four distinct lines. Another record the distillery has repeatedly broken is for the most expensive bottle of whisky sold at auction. The current holder is The Macallan “M” Imperiale, sold in 2014 for $628,000.

Armorik Classic

Armorik Classic

The distillery that makes Aromrik Breton Single Malt Whisky was founded by the Warenghem family in 1900. The distillery makes a variety of spirits, with the Breton Single Malt being introduced about 30 years ago. The distillery is one very much rooted in the region, hearkening back to the Celtic peoples and traditions that bound Brittany to Ireland and Scotland. This commitment to tradition, while also straddling the undeniable French influence, results in a unique expression that has slowly but inexorably gained praise from many world areas and whisky writers. There are four single malt offerings so far: a double maturation, a sherry finish, an Edition Originale, and this original, their Classic.
