Green Spot Chateau Léoville Barton
Wine Merchants and whiskey bonders Mitchell & Son have a long history in the spirits industry. Primarily known in the whiskey world for introducing the Spot line in 1920. Produced by Irish Distillers at Midleton Distillery, it is one of the few remaining single pot still bonded Irish whiskies. After most of the Spot line fell out of production for many years, the entire line has seen a reintroduction over the past decade. Included in this resurgence has seen finishes with specific wineries for multiple Spots, either for limited release or a broader market offering. The Green Spot Chateau Léoville Barton was aged for 5-7 years and then finished in ex-Burgundy barriques for approximately 18 months. The vineyards are located near Saint-Julien, on the left bank of Garonne estuary in southwestern France.
Teeling Blackpitts
Since 2015, the Teeling Distillery in Dublin has been bringing Irish Whiskey to the world. Their peated “Blackpitts” edition, so named for the area surrounding the distillery traditionally used for malting barley, utilizes the distillery’s unique aging approach, which uses both ex-bourbon and ex-Sauternes white wine casks to impart a new and unique experience for Teeling and for Irish Whiskey in general. Bottled at 46% and with no chill filtration, the Blackpitts promises to deliver a little something new from the ashes of something old.
Eifel Single Malt
Eifel distillery is made by husband and wife Stephan and Carolin. Stephan handles the mashing and distilling and Carolin handles the labeling and bottling, hand labeling each bottle. Their whisky is first distilled in a column still and then the second distillation is done in a copper pot still. Their total output is so low, their whiskey is only typically found in the Eifel region of Germany. Thankfully they have an agreement with Anthem Imports, which brings their offerings to the US market in limited releases. The Eifel Single Malt German Whisky was distilled in 2012 and 2013, aged for 4 years in ex-Bordeaux American casks before aging for 4 more years in ex-cream sherry casks. Only 300 cases were made.
