Westward Pinot Noir Cask
Westward Distillery was one of the early American handful single malt distillers. For over 25 years, Westward has continued to explore their craft on the West Coast as the American Single Malt landscape grew and took shape. The Westward Pinot Noir Cask has been a staple of the distillery’s core line for a number of years. Beginning with the distillery’s signature single malt, the liquid is then finished in French oak casks that formerly held Pinot Noir wines from Oregon’s Willamette Valley for two years.
Jura 18 Year
The island of Jura may only have one pub and one road, but it also has one distillery. Founded in 1810, Jura has held on amidst the tides of time to survive into the present, indelibly stamped on the island landscape and community. While the island is difficult to reach even today, the distillery continues to take the waters from Market Loch and feed it into some of the tallest stills in Scotland. The height and width enable greater contact with copper during distillation. The core range relaunched in 2018 and now composes a 12, 14 and this 18 year scotch. The Jura 18 is matured in American ex-bourbon casks before being finished in Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux red wine barriques from Southern France.
Bowmore 12 Year
Bowmore distillery was founded in 1779 by John P. Simson before ownership passed to the Mutter family, who held it until the distillery closed in 1915 for ten years, before being purchased and passing through various hands during the 20th Century before falling under a subsidiary of the current owner, Bean Suntory. This conglomorate has a vast spirits portfolio that includes, just in Scotland, the Ardmore, Auchentoshan, Bowmore, Glen Garioch, and Laphroaig distilleries, along with producing the McClelland’s single malt range. It has an annual production capacity of two million liters and the waste heat from the distillation process heats a nearby public swimming pool built in a former warehouse. Through a combination of longevity of operations and careful management, Bowmore currently houses the oldest and most diverse set of whiskies on Islay. The Bowmore 12 is the benchmark of the distillery’s core range, and features maturation in both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.
