The Belgian Owl

Reading the story of The Belgian Owl is like stumbling upon a lost entry concerning Hobbits by J. R. R. Tolkien. The Owl Distillery offers their product made from spring barley with a love for the land, a sense of adventure and a decided touch of whimsy. Located in the region of Hesbaye, this whisky comes out of a long tradition of beer making. There are essentially three employees at the distillery: the farmer, the financier and the whisky maker. Between them, they have been offering core expressions of spirit and single malt whisky since 2008, both to their native countrymen and to the world. While other distilleries have histories, the gents at the Owl Distillery have crafted their own Legend. The Belgian Owl is the product of their creativity and adventuring.

Whisky Wisdom: Interview with Louis Dachis, Part 1

Whisky Wisdom will be an ongoing series of interviews with whisk(e)y luminaries in our current locality, with the potential to branch out geographically when the possibility arises. The brands are not the only ones who have expertise, after all. Sometimes a local guide is closer than you might think, and this series looks to showcase them. Where can whisky wisdom be found? In many places, with many people, who have various viewpoints and opinions when it comes to the world of our favorite spirit. (NOTE: the above image is not actually Louis)

Aberlour 12 Year Double Cask

Nestled in the heart of the Speyside region a few miles north of Ben Rinnes along the River Spey, Aberlour has a proud history of distilling that covers centuries and intertwines a sense of heritage with exploration. While an increasing number of distilleries are replacing their aged offerings with No Age Statements (NAS), the Aberlour range has two 12’s, a 16 and an 18. The Aberlour 12 claims to be double matured, as it is aged in oak casks with buttes from ex-sherry casks.
