Pour Judgement: Reviews & Ranking
There have been a few articles over the past several months by whisky bloggers and writers that deal with the subject of whisky evaluation (really, great stuff). Generally, they comment on the state of the review industry – both professional and amateur, however you want to define those terms – and an examination of what they do, usually spurred by a change they are themselves making. Draw your own conclusions about whisky bloggers in general and the choices they make in particular, but it drove home the point that there isn’t necessarily a detailed, transparent place where the aims of Scotchology have been listed out.
World Whisky Day 2017
Scotchology is celebrating World Whisky Day for the fourth year in a row by offering a tasting on June 3 in Minneapolis, MN (past events in 2014, 2015, 2016). But the official World Whisky Day is on May 21 this year. What gives? You’re absolutely right, but various and sundry reasons have forced us to push our own tasting back a couple weeks. We promise, it’ll be worth it. This wondrous day was started in 2012 by Blair Bowman and is supporting Just A Drop, a charity designed to get a village in Kenya safe access to that most precious of commodities: water.
SnapShot: Northern Exposure (Whiskies from Sweden)
SnapShot is a new type of feature we’re trying here at Scotchology, specifically geared for sampling groups of whiskies that belong together for some reason or are in small quantities. Eschewing many of the finer details normally found in our standard reviews, this is meant to be our quick reactions instead of a deep dive. Also unlike our normal reviews, we’ll be grouping these impressions together instead of breaking them out by individual. Rapid fire by the dram, if you will, and very unfiltered. In other words, this is as close as you’re likely to get to sitting at the table with us as we venture into the unknown. There are currently no plans to schedule these beyond when the opportunity arises. First up is a Swedish whisky set we put together from Masters of Malt!
