Torabhaig Allt Gleann

Torabhaig Allt Gleann

Torabhaig opened in 2017 on the Isle of Skye, perhaps more famous for its first distillery, Talisker. Situated in a farmstead from the 19th century built using stone from a nearby Cnoc Castle, the building has been refurbished with copper stills, washbacks, and all the other needed equipment. Thinking forward, the distillery roof is removable so that when the time comes to upgrade the stills, they can be moved in and out with minimal disturbance of the historical building. The Torabhaig Allt Gleann is the distillery’s inaugural release, so named from the Allt Gleann, one of the burns near the distillery that provides the water along with the Allt Breacach. Made with Concerto malted barley, Pinnacle MG+ yeast, and peated to 16ppm.

Glen Scotia 10 Year Peated

Glen Scotia 10 Year Peated

Campbeltown may be the smallest whisky-producing region in Scotland now but in the Victorian era, it was the whisky capital of Scotland, with over 30 distilleries in 1835. One of them was Glen Scotia. We certainly appreciate the regions’ rich heritage and tasty drams that give you a hint of the sea. Glen Scotia 10 Peated was released in 2018. The distillery offers a range of peated offerings (unpeated to heavily peated), with this offering seeming to be relatively standard edition. Enjoy this wee dram crafted and overseen by Campbeltown native and former engineer, Iain McAlister. Sláinte!

Talisker Distillers Edition

Talisker Distillers Edition

Talisker is the oldest distillery on the Isle of Skye and for many years was the only one. Looking out over Loch Harport, the distillery was founded in 1830 by the MacAskill brothers and has been producing whisky for almost the entirety of the past two centuries. Now owned by Diageo, the distillery is able to rely on the resources such a corporate conglomerate is able to provide, like access to a host of casks to use in finishing. The Distillers Edition series is a program run by Diageo where standard offerings of a distillery are then further aged in ex-sherry or ex-wine casks. The Talisker Distillers Edition is a Talisker 10 year aged a further 12 months in ex-amoroso sherry casks. Amoroso is a blend out of Jerez, Spain where bodego workers would add a touch of Pedro Ximenez sherry to their bottles of Oloroso sherry, to make it more loveable, or “amoroso,” for their wives. This is similar to a cream sherry.
